Our Mission

Grants are provided to help remove financial obstacles that are blocking these striving young people from achieving their educational, employment or life goals.

Grants typically range from $250 to $5,000.


Below are examples of the types of expenses 1859 Foundation grants could cover.

  • Tuition fees for school or vocational programs

  • Fees for parenting and caregiving training programs

  • Books and materials for school or college

  • Transportation fees (e.g. bus passes) to and from school and work

  • School uniforms

  • Summer camps and enrichment programs

  • Clothes for school or job interviews

  • Haircuts / personal grooming in preparation for interviews

  • Resumes for job applications

  • Application fees for vocational or educational training programs

  • Vocational certification / credentialing fees

  • Professional licensing fee
